A two-day long Orientation programme was organised by Neotia Institute of Technology, Management and Science at the multipurpose hall of its Sarisha campus to welcome its newly admitted students and their guardians. The programme started with National Anthem followed by lighting the lamp and other cultural performances. The dignitaries present on the occasion were Prof. Sujoy Biswas (Principal, NITMAS), Prof. Biswajit Ghosh (Vice Chancellor, TNU), Prof. D D Patra (Vice Chancellor, BCKV), Prof. A K Paul (Professor, University of Calcutta) and Dr. S M Ali (Director, IEI). Prof. Biswas introduced NITMAS to students and their guardians, explained rules and regulations of the Institute and guided them on being focussed in academics and achieving career goals. Other dignitaries briefed the importance of orientation programme and also required training programmes to make them employable. The programme ended with the vote of thanks.

On the second day, different campus facilities like music club, photography club, technical and social club, sports and recreation facilities, gymnasium, library etc. were introduced to the students by the respected faculty members of our campus. Prof. Biswarup Mukherjee introduced the course curriculum and examination rules, regulations, evaluation criteria to the students, these information are very significant and crucial to the fresh students. Students and guardians enjoyed both the days and were volunteered by the staffs and senior students of our campus.

As per guidelines of AICTE there was a three-week long Induction Programme, conducted for the 1st year students of NITMAS to make them familiar with the respective department as well as the culture and ethos of the Institute and to get them involved in different academic and non-academic activities for their holistic development.

All the 1st year students were welcomed by Principal, NITMAS and guided on institutional rules, regulations and also their future goals. All the faculty members and mentors engaged with 1st year activities were introduced. Students visited different campus facilities like Games,  Gym, Music  club,  Swimming  pool, Library,  Workshop  under  the  guidance  of  sports  coordinator  and technical assistants of ECE and CSE departments.

Students were mentored by respective departmental head on departmental rules, disciplines, code of conduct and ethics. Departmental faculty members and technical assistants were introduced by the departmental head followed by departmental academic and administrative activities like formation of group email ids, whatsapp group, selection of mentors from faculties and senior students etc.

InfyTQ which is a free platform open to all engineering students in their third and fourth year across India and which encourages holistic development by imparting technical as well as professional skills to help them become industry ready, was introduced by Prof. Soumendranath Mishra. An introduction to Research Activities was given to the students by Prof. Samik Samanta and Prof. Subrata Dutta. Students visited all the departmental laboratories under the guidance of Prof. Paramita Das and Prof. Kallol Bera respectively.

by Mr. Suranjan Chakraborty, Senior Engineer, Qualcomm India Private Limited

·      An Invited lecture was delivered on "Career opportunities in the field of Cloud Computing" by Mr. Arijit Roy, Lead Cloud Integration Architect, IBM GTS Lab, through video conferencing.

Mr. Arijit Roy is a multi-skilled technical architect with about 13 years of comprehensive experience in designing, developing and deploying architectures and infrastructure for Custom  Software  Applications,  Software  Services Research  (along with  IBM Watson Research Lab) and Product Development. He is a subject matter expert and a technical leader in Business Process Management (BPM), Business Process Modelling, Business Process Engineering (BPE), Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), Model Driven Technologies (MDA/MDD) and a Technical Leader in Java/J2EE technologies.

He delivered a significant speech on the need of cloud computing, explained in detail many advantages of this technology. He then precisely and concisely explained different types of cloud services, cloud providers and different deployment models, growth and technologies associated with it and more significantly career path in this field. He showed various statistics on this technology. He motivated and nurtured the young minds with his valuable words.

  • An Invited lecture was delivered on "Challenges and Opportunities in the field of Artificial Intelligence" by Mr. AnupaMandal, Scientist-F, DRDO, through video conferencing.

Mr. Anupam Mandal is a scientist with Centre for AI and Robotics, Defence R&D Organisation, India. He obtained his bachelors and masters in Computer Science and Engineering from NIT, Durgapur and IIT Madras respectively. He has over 15 years experience in research, design and development of automatic speech and speaker recognition and speech indexing systems. He has published several papers in international conferences on different aspects of automatic speech processing and VoIP technology.

He very beautifully explained the concept of Artificial Intelligence and why the tech world is crazy about it. His intelligent words on the evolution of AI and what the students should equip themselves with for a career in AIimpressed the students very much. He also guided the fresh minds with the opportunities and challenges in the field of AI and also how to move forward and the future of AI.

  • An  Invited  lecture was delivered on  "Career opportunities in the field of  Embedded  Systems"  by  Mr.  Suranjan Chakraborty, Senior Engineer, Qualcomm India Private Limited, through video conferencing.

Mr. Suranjan Chakraborty joined WIPRO as a system engineer. He got the opportunity to work with Intel through WIPRO, Intel Ultra Mobility Group on Energy & Thermal Management system architecture of Linux Android based Intel mobile/ Tablet platforms. He later joined Samsung, Bangalore, the memory solution team, R&D section. There he was mostly exposed to embedded system domain. Currently he is associated with Qualcomm India Pvt. Ltd. There he works as a senior engineer in Qualcomm Snapdragon Core platform team and DSP Audio Validation Team.

He shared his journey as a technical person in different companies as much as the students of 1st semester can understand but more interestingly he shared his journey from an under graduate student to till date. He motivated the students by sharing stories of different interview panels and how success can be achieved through failure and how they can start preparing themselves from day 1 to make themselves employable.
